NTS®-PI: Safety Breakaway Coupling triggered by axial tension

The NTS®-PI is a Breakaway Coupling which triggers when an unintentional axial tensile load is applied. It stands out mainly due to its uncomplicated installation, its non-destructive and safe separation and its quick and easy reassembly. In addition, the trigger mechanism is independent of process system pressure.
Hazardous situations during refueling operations often arise due to an accidental impact on the line. This can occur for a variety of reasons, such as the sudden departure of a tanker connected to the coupling. The recommended solution is to provide the line with an NTS emergency disconnect safety system from ARTA. Should an unintentional impact occur on the line where the NTS®-PI is installed, both coupling halves will separate in a controlled manner and the valves on both sides will close immediately. No spillage of potentially dangerous transported media will occur, and the safety of the user is guaranteed.

Non-destructive separation

The design of the NTS®-PI ensures direct, safe separation. The coupling components are not destroyed, which provides a long-lasting service life for the NTS. Furthermore, the separation mechanism permits zero-spill retention of the transported media on both sides of the coupling. Thanks to its innovative separation mechanism, there will be no additional material costs, nor any impact on the environment.

Quick and easy reassembly on site

The Breakaway Coupling can be easily reassembled, since the separation occurs in a non-destructive manner, thereby avoiding unnecessary downtime. No spare parts or special tools are required for reassembly because the separated coupling halves are pulled together using a simple device.

Maximum flow

We defined the flow-optimized design of the NTS®-PI using the finite element method (FEM), which we then validated using flow tests. The results are a minimal pressure loss at maximum delivery flow.

Patented high-performance trigger mechanism

The optimized release mechanism prevents tensile forces between a vehicle, the NTS and the remainder of the system. Safe separation is ensured even under adverse conditions. The NTS®-PI’s high-performance trigger mechanism is designed to be independent of line pressure.

Protective swivel mechanism

The integrated swivel mechanism in the NTS®-PI protects the hose line and the loading arm.

Fully verified by international certification entities

DThe NTS®-PI is a globally recognized safety coupling, certified by internationally approval entities. There are no reservations for its use in various safety-related applications.
ARTA Breakaway Couplings are used on suction and discharge lines for liquid, gaseous or solid substances. They can be applied both to hose lines and in pipe loading systems, which makes them ideal for tanker trucks, tanker ships, loading stations or hose towers, among others. Ideally, they are combined with an AASK Dry Break or ARTA Quick Disconnect. von ARTA.
