NTS®-PU: Safety Breakaway Coupling triggered by axial tension

The NTS®-PU is a Breakaway Coupling which triggers when an unintentional axial tensile load is applied. It stands out mainly for its uncomplicated installation, its non-destructive and safe separation and its easy, rapid reassembly. Additionally, it boasts a 90° range of activation.
Any sudden impact on the line during refueling could create a situation that is hazardous. There are many causes for such a potential impact, such as the sudden departure of a tanker connected to the coupling. ARTA’s NTS emergency disconnect safety system is recommended specifically for this reason. If an unintentional impact occurs on a line where the NTS®-PU is installed, both coupling halves will disconnect in a controlled manner, and the valves on either side will immediately close. No dangerous media will spill, and both the environment and the operator will remain safe.

Non-destructive separation

The design of the NTS®-PU assures a safe, direct separation that will not destroy the coupling components. This gives the NTS its long-lasting service life. The separation mechanism also permits spill-free retention of the transported material within both coupling halves. Thanks to its innovative separation mechanism, there is no impact on the environment and there are no additional material costs.

Quick and easy reassembly on site

Separation of the Breakaway Coupling is non-destructive, and because of that, the coupling halves can be easily reunited using a simple device. No special tools or spare parts are necessary, and downtime is minimal.

Maximum flow

The flow-optimized NTS®-PU design came about using the finite element method (FEM), which we then validated by flow tests. The results show minimum pressure loss, even when the breakaway coupling is at maximum delivery flow.

Patented trigger mechanism with flexible 90° range of activation

ARTA’s patented trigger release mechanism prevents tensile force between a vehicle, the NTS and the rest of the system. Even in poor conditions, safe separation is assured. The trigger is largely independent of the direction from which a tensile force is exerted on the system, thanks to the separating mechanism’s flexible 90° range of activation.

Fully verified by international certification entities

The NTS®-PU has been certified by recognized international approval entities. Since it is a globally approved safety coupling, it has no usage reservations in various safety-related applications.
ARTA Breakaway Couplings are used on suction and discharge lines for liquid, gaseous or solid substances. They can be used on both pipe loading systems and hose lines alike, making them ideal for tanker ships and trucks, hose towers and loading stations, as well as other applications. They are optimally combined with an ARTA ASK® Dry Break.
