NTS®-MPC: Cryogenic Emergency Disconnect Safety System for Onshore and Offshore

The NTS®-MPC is an extremely robust and reliable Breakaway Coupling for offshore and onshore transportation of low-temperature media such as LNG and LOX. In the event of a dangerous situation, it separates safely and non-destructively. After separation, it permits rapid, easy reassembly.

The cryogenic emergency separation safety system MPC is recommended for liquid and gaseous media down to -230° Celsius or -382° Fahrenheit.
During refueling operations, dangerous situations may occur due to an unintentional impact on the line. Such hazards can come about for many different reasons, such as critical weather conditions and rough seas. Therefore, it is advisable to provide the line with an ARTA emergency disconnect safety system suitable for marine applications.

Should a tensile force accidentally impact the line where the NTS®-MPC is installed, both halves of the coupling will separate in a controlled manner and their valves will then close on both sides. No spillage of potentially dangerous media will occur and operator safety is ensured.

Application in the low temperature range

The NTS®-MPC enables the loading of liquids and gases in a low temperature range of down to -230° Celsius and -382° Fahrenheit, making it appropriate for use in the cryogenic sector.

Protecting the environment due to non-destructive separation

The proven design of the NTS®-MPC ensures direct and secure separation. The coupling components are not destroyed, which provides a long service life for the NTS. Moreover, the separation mechanism permits spill-free retention of the media in both coupling halves. There are no additional material costs and no impact on the environment.

Quick and easy reassembly on site

The separated halves of a Breakaway Coupling can be easily pulled together using a simple device, rather than spare parts or special tools. The non-destructive manner in which separation occurs results in easy reassembly and minimal downtime.

Maximum flow

The flow-optimized design of the NTS®-MPC was produced using the finite element method (FEM), then validating through flow tests. These show that pressure loss is minimal when the breakaway coupling is at maximum delivery flow.

Patented high-performance triggering mechanism

Even during adverse conditions, the optimized trigger mechanism ensures safe separation.

Fully verified by international certification entities

There are no reservations regarding the use of the NTS®-MPC coupling. It has been safety-certified by internationally recognized approval organizations.
The NTS®-MPC is uniquely designed for the transportation of media at extremely low temperatures, such as cryogenic liquefied natural gas, cryogenic liquefied oxygen, ethylene, propylene or ethane. It can be used on suction and discharge lines for liquid and gaseous substances, making it ideally suited for tanker vessels as well as onshore and offshore loading stations, among other applications.
